STILL LIFE

Back to Gallery

Throughout his career, Ian drew, painted and printed still life compositions, ranging from realistic to abstract studies.

The painting ‘Discarded Aircraft’ was made in 1972 and are of small metal models that Ian had from childhood. The candle sticks, metronome and shell feature in a number of etchings and paintings. The carrier bag and sanding disc composition is set in Ian’s studio at Shepperton. He also painted other items in his studio, such as fishing tackle, but these works were over painted at a later date. Some of the still life work were studies for another series of work, ‘The Last Supper’ which we think explored life, death and resurrection.
